Previous job: Billy worked as a bookbinder in a factory in Glasgow before quitting to persue acting. During college, he worked in a Pizza Hut, a bar and a comedy club to make ends meet.

Also is usually seen wearing 2 gold rings, this is what he says about them: "One is a celtic ring that I got from my sister and the other one is a ring from New Zealand, called Tree Ring. It mixes silver, skin of a tree and wood; you put all these in a mould then you melt all together. The final result is like this, non uniform. It doesn't look like a pretty thing, and that's why it is nice."

His grandmother who turned 100 in 2001 (and incidentally raised him from the time he was 14) passed away some time shortly after (referred to as his "late grandmother" in a recent Scotsman interview. * Glaswegian Billy Boyd got bitten by the acting bug when he was cast as the Artful Dodger in a school production of the stage musical "Oliver!" at age 11. Although encouraged in his pursuit of the arts by his mother (she enrolled him in amateur dramatics at the Dolphin Arts Centre), he opted to train as a bookbinder when he left school just before his 17th birthday. After a four-year apprenticeship and two more years of actual work, Boyd decided the time had come to pursue his dream of acting.

*In The Lord of the Rings, according to the book, Pippin is 28 years old, which makes him the youngest of the four lead hobbits. However, Boyd is actually the oldest of the four hobbit actors.

*When he was first cast in The Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson asked him to tone down his Scottish accent, but found that the funny parts just weren't as funny without it, so Boyd was allowed to use his regular Scottish accent. Jackson and the writers then consulted The Hobbit. Bilbo Baggins's mother was a Took, and one of their ancestors had, according to the book, invented the game of golf. Since golf is of Scottish origin, they reasoned that Tolkien must have, therefore, intended for the Tooks to be Scottish.

*Began working with Dominic Monaghan on a script about two English lads who open a scuba diving school in Miami. "We started writing when we were stuck up Treebeard during the second movie [The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)]," Boyd told a reporter for the Sunday Herald Sun (Melbourne, Australia) [December 14, 2003].

*Wrote and sang a song called 'The Steward of Gondor' in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. He wanted it to sound Scottish, somber and very different than the kind of thing that Pippin and Merry were singing at Edoras earlier in the movie.

*Won a role as an astronaut in Sniper 470 by doing the best impression of weightlessness while sitting in a chair.

"That's a hard one. I'd have to say: The Beatles - The White Album, Jeff Buckley - Grace, Stone Roses - Stone Roses, Divine Comedy - Fin de Siecle, and Adam and the Ants - Stand and Deliver."

What is Billy's greatest achievement thus far?
"Probably learning how to surf. I learned when we were filming in New Zealand, about 3 years ago now. It's definitely the most difficult thing I've learned to do."

What's his favorite line in the Fellowship"Where are we going?" "It kind of sums up Pippin in that moment. He knows his friends are going somewhere and he knows it's probably dangerous but there's no way he could let his friends go and not go and try and help them in some way."

Which part would you want to play if you weren't playing Pippin?"I was thinking of Gandalf. I don't know - there's so many great characters - Gollum would be fantastic, Sam is just a beautiful character I think."

What's your worst habit?"My worst habit is whistling while I sleep."
