February, March and April, 1999 - Billy appears on stage in "The Speculator" as Lord Islay. It is directed by Philip Howard and plays at the Traverse Theatre for Edinburgh Lyceum. March, 1999 - Billy is cast as Pippin Took for Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Wednesday, July 07, 1999 - Billy Boyd is rumored to be playing Pippin at The One Ring.net Monday, July 19, 1999 - Billy Boyd is "unofficially announced" as the role of Pippin Took. Friday, August 27, 1999 - Billy and Orlando meet for the first time and leave for NZ together. Saturday, August 28, 1999 - Billy and Orlando celebrate Billy's 31st birthday en route to New Zealand with champagne on the flight. Saturday, September 18, 1999 - Filming begins in New Zealand on The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Friday, September 24, 1999 - First day of costume fittings for the hobbits in New Zealand. Thursday, October 07, 1999 - The entire cast in finally named for the Lord of the Rings Trilogy by New Line Cinema. Monday, October 11, 1999 - Principal photography begins on Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Monday, October 11 through Friday, October 15, 1999 - First day of shooting begins with A Shortcut to Mushrooms [scene along the road with mushrooms] in Mt. Victoria, Wellington. Tuesday, October 19, 1999 - Shooting at Weathertop begins and Viggo films his first scene for the movie with Billy and the other hobbits. Wednesday, October 20 through Monday, October 25, 1999 - Shooting begins for the Bree interiors and exteriors in Fort Dorset, Wellington and at the Stone Film Studios in Miramar. Wednesday, October 20 through Thursday, October 21, 1999 - Shooting for Brandywine Bridge scene takes place at Manakau. Tuesday, November 09, 1999 Queenstown, New Zealand is flooded and work is temporarily stopped on shooting of Lord of the Rings. Wednesday, November 10, 1999 - Management finally allows the press its first interview with castmembers, Billy Boyd and Dom Monaghan. No pictures are still allowed at this point of any of the cast members. Late November, 1999 - Filming begins for night shots near the caves in Mt. Owen, Murchison. The Kawaru River is substituted for the scenes at Anduin, due to flooding. Late November, 1999 - Boromir's death scene with Billy and Dom is filmed, according to an E! Tuesday, January 18, 2000 - Shooting begins in Hobbiton and lasts for 2 months. Sunday, January 23, 2000 - Filming for the snows of Edoras begins near the ski resort of Erwhon on the South Island. Tuesday, January 25, 2000 - Billy talks Sir Ian McClellan into sliding down a fireman's pole. Saturday, February 19, 2000 - Filming begins on the fireworks scene with Billy, Dom and Sir Ian. Liv Tyler has also arrived to begin work soon. Mid February, 2000 - Billy moves from an apartment into a rented house near Wellington, as do the other "hobbits". Sunday, February 27, 2000 - Celebrity Bath Tub Race in Auckland, New Zealand. Elijah believes Billy won the race, but admits it was hard to tell. Saturday, March 11, 2000 - The three "hobbits" [Billy, Dom and Elijah] attend a Military Tattoo event held in a reproduction of Edinburgh Castle built in Wellington, New Zealand. March, 2000 - Billy and the other hobbits visit the set of Star Wars: Episode II which is filming in New Zealand. March, 2000 - Dom and Billy begin separate filming schedule as per the script. Saturday, April 01, 2000 - Peter Jackson throws a party for the cast. Saturday, April 1, 2000 through Friday, April 21, 2000 A three week spring break is given to the main castmembers. Saturday, April 22, 2000 - Shooting begins for two months in Mordor. Saturday, June 24 and Monday, July 24, 2000 - Summer break. Billy goes to Australia and Thailand with Dom, Elijah and Orlando. Friday, July 21, 2000 - Billy attends the Hollywood Ball at the Millennium Hotel in Queenstown, New Zealand with Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Dominic Monaghan, and Orlando Bloom. Saturday, July 22, 2000 - Billy goes snowboarding in Queenstown, New Zealand with Elijah. Tuesday, July 25, 2000 - Shooting at Cirith Ungol begins and lasts until August. Tuesday, August 1, 2000 though Wednesday, August 9, 2000 - The fellowship film on the Auduin River in Upper Hutt. Monday, August 28, 2000 - Billy's 32nd birthday. the Fellowship is filming at Golden Bay, South Island filming in the hills above Takaka, Mount Olympus. Early September, 2000 Billy breaks his finger while surfing in New Zealand. Monday, September 4, 2000 Filming is begun at the Wellington Studios for the Mines of Moria scenes. Thursday, September 07, 2000 - Billy and the other hobbits are shooting near Queenstown and Billy does an interview for the Southland Times. Wednesday, September 20, 2000 - Billy and Dom are flown to Cadarahas to shoot some scenes involving being buried in the snow. Friday, October 13, 2000 - Producer Barry Osborne hosts a party at his New Zealand home in honor of one year of shooting. Fireworks and the infamous fireman's pole are included in the celebration. Monday, October 16, 2000 through Thursday, November 2, 2000 - Filming begins at the Battle of Pellenor Fields and is shot in Te Anua. November, 2000 - Scenes for Minus Tirith begin at the Dry Quarry Creek outside Wellington. Wednesday, December 13, 2000 through Friday, December 22, 2000 - Billy and Sir Ian shoot the scenes in Minth Tirith. Friday, December 15, 2000 - Some scenes at the door to the mines of Moria are shot. Shooting begins for the four hobbits and the coronation scene for final film. It is the last scene shot for all four hobbits together. Pete and Fran are on set and bottles of Boli Champagne were cracked open. A gag reel in which they all drank from the bottles in the scene is made. Saturday, December 16, 2000 through Tuesday, December 19, 2000 - Dom and Billy finish all their scenes with Treebeard. Sunday, December 17, 2000 - Billy and the other fellowship members get tattoos at Rogers Tattoo Parlor in Wellington, New Zealand, except Sean [who does it later.] Friday, December 22, 2000 - Principal photography on Lord of the Rings Trilogy ends. Billy shots his last scene between Pippin and Faramir, although Faramir is not there. A wrap party is held that evening. Friday, December 22, 2000 - Billy and Dom begin packing to go home. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is awarded Best Debut Film. Billy presented the award for best film. Saturday, January 5, 2001 The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring receives an AFI [American Film Institute] Award for Best Movie of the Year in Beverly Hills, California. Billy can not attend. Producer Barrie Osborne accepts the award Sunday, January 14, 2001 to Saturday, February 3, 2001 - Billy, Dom and Orlando take a three week surfing holiday to Florida. Sunday, February 04, 2001 - Billy returns home to Glasgow. Early 2001 - Billy attends a charity event abroad the Royal Yacht Britannia to support the charity "Help the Aged" in the UK. He does so in honor of his soon to be 100 year old grandmother. Monday, February 05, 2001 - Billy begins work on "Sniper 470" for New Found Land Film scheme. He plays the character "Gunner". The entire film is shot in 6 days. Saturday, February 10, 2001 - Billy ends principal photography on Sniper 470. Sunday, March 11, 2001 - Billy is nominated along with the rest of the cast for a 2001 Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Ensemble Cast, "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring." The award went to the cast of "Gosford Park." March, 2001 - Billy begins shooting in Rosarito Beach, Mexico for "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World" with Russell Crowe. He is cast as Barrett Bondon. Mid May, 2001 - Principal photography for Master & Commander ends. Sunday, May, 13, 2001 The Cannes Film Festival is attended by Billy along with Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom, Liv Tyler, Dominic Monaghan, Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee, Peter Jackson, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, John Rhys-Davies and Ian Holm. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is previewed. Monday, May 14, 2001 - Fellowship of the Ring premieres at Cannes. Billy attends. Friday, July 13, 2001 - The DVD release of "Urban Ghost Story" is issued. Sunday, August 12, 2001 Billy appears on UK morning show "SM:TV Live" playing himself. This play utilized Billy's ability to play the drums as he plays a drummer, whose career took a cocaine nosedive. It runs at the Traverse until 20th of October than goes on tour until the 10th of November. Saturday, October 20, 2001 - Billy goes on tour with The Ballad of Crazy Paola from October 20th to November 10th. Saturday, November 17, 2001 - Billy goes to the United States to begin a press junket for the release of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. December, 2001 - Billy is named Scotland's #2 most eligible bachelor second only to Prince William. Monday, December 10, 2001 - Billy attends The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring premiere in London, England. Monday, December 10, 2001 Billy and Dom appear on the "Richard & Judy" show playing himself, The show stars: Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan. Guest Stars this day included Richard Neville and Anna Chancellor. Thursday, December 13, 2001 - Billy attends The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring premiere in New York City. Other guests included Victoria Beckham, Gary Lucy and Britney Spears. Monday, February 4, 2002 Billy Boyd attends the Empire Awards with Ian McKellen and Orlando Bloom. Peter Jackson accepts his award from New Zealand. The Lord of the Rings was also named best film and one of its stars, Christopher Lee, got the Empire lifetime achievement award. Elijah Wood was named best actor and his co-star Orlando Bloom won the best debut actor award. Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan had been nominated but did not win for The Lord of The Rings.
