I do think Billy is a lot wilder than his public persona would lead us to believe. Dom said he'd like to do a True Hollywood Story on Billy's sexual antics in his early 20's, when Billy was "blowing his sexual bagpipes up and down the highlands and lowlands of Scotland" . But tabloids are also known for taking basically true stories and embellishing them to make them more interesting, so I think the truth probably lies somewhere in between.

Here are a few things about that night, though, that I find really interesting. It took place the night of January 13, 2004 apparently after the cast won the National Board of Review award for Best Acting by an Ensemble for ROTK. (I can certainly see why they'd be in a celebratory mood! ) Other LOTR actors in attendance that night were Sean Astin, Andy Serkis, and Bernard Hill. Since the article says there were other LOTR actors with Billy & Lij, it's likely to have been one or more of these guys -- maybe all of them!

So, I was wrong about who was with them and I was also wrong about this being before Ali's time. It's funny that a few weeks before this incident, as well as a few weeks after it, Billy was professing that he only has eyes for his girlfriend, and that he doesn't even notice other women. Riiiiight Billy


OK, back on topic, here's an early article from December 2001. Most of it is the usual stuff about his life before LOTR and how he got the part, but it does mention that he had a girlfriend while in NZ. And I love the picture on the first page.
