He really does doesn't he, Elaine?

Yes he does. They have him off to a tee. It worries me a little bit Winona Ryder playing Amanda. I guess she will wear a wig because I always see Amanda as
blonde. I wonder who will play Sarek?

Yes, I was sort of thinking the same thing about Winona playing his mother. And you are right, Amanda is a blonde...at least that is how she was always
portrayed.
Good question about Sarek!

Star Trek cast grows
Wednesday, 14 Nov 2007 10:55
JJ Abrams' Star Trek movie reignites the franchise over Christmas 2008.
According to Variety, 24-year-old Hemsworth is to play George Kirk, father of Captain James T Kirk (Chris Pine), in the 11th Star Trek film, which tells the tale of the Starfleet Academy days of Captain Kirk and the Starship Enterprise crew. And Capote star Collins is to play the sidekick of Eric Bana's villainous Nero, joining an increasingly impressive lineup for the Christmas 2008 movie, penned by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. Winona Ryder's casting as Amanda Grayson - the young human mother of Mr Spock (Zachary Quinto) - was confirmed at the weekend and Brit comedy star Simon Pegg is to play the young Scotty. Lord of the Rings actor Karl Urban will take the role of Leonard 'Bones' McCoy, Harold and Kumar star John Cho will play Mr Sulu and relative newcomer Pine is to step into William Shatner's shoes as Captain James T Kirk. The studio producing the film also held an open audition last weekend for people with "unique" features to appear in the upcoming film. The release from Headquarters Casting said they were "especially seeking talent with interesting and unique facial features, such as long necks, small heads, extremely large heads, wide-set eyes, bug eyes, close-set eyes, large forehead, short upper lip, pronounced cheekbones, over or undersized ears and/or nose". It added that people with "facial deformities, ultra plain-looking people, ultra perfect-looking people, pure wholesome looks, twins, triplets, emaciated talent, in addition to regally poised and postured talent", would also be considered. "This is an epic project and we are looking for the most intriguing and interesting faces to integrate in this film," the invitation added.
My former Deputy CMO Tony and I were talking about our days in StarFleet today and I got quite nostalgic. LOL

He may not feature Sue. Didn't Spock and his Father have an estrangement for a great number of years because of Spock's decsion to join Star Fleet?

Oh heavens! I never thought of that! I think you are right about that Elaine. But if they are going to have his mother in the movie then I would have thought
that they would have Sarek as well. I guess it depends upon how far back they are going to start...I mean, I COULD see them putting that into the movie, the
estrangement between Spock and Sarek. But of course we don't know how they are going to portray the movie or exactly at what point in time they are going
to start it at...if I'm making any sense to you at all.

Here's what Shatner has to say.
http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5j_VV4tICrJsJn66p3lTIt-E5b5SQ William Shatner surprised by 'Star Trek' snubLOS ANGELES (AFP) - William Shatner, best known for playing Captain Kirk in "Star Trek", has spoken of his surprise at not being offered a cameo role in the latest movie version of the cult science-fiction show. But the 76-year-old Canadian actor -- who skippered the USS Enterprise during the 79 episodes that aired between 1966 and 1969 and in the seven films that followed -- says he expects the new "Star Trek" blockbuster to be a hit. "How could you not put one of the founding figures into a movie that was being resurrected?," Shatner told US entertainment television program "Extra." "That doesn't make good business sense to me!" he said in the interview to be screened later Wednesday. Leonard Nimoy and several other past cast members are reported to have been offered roles in the film, which is being directed by J.J. Abrams, one of the creators of cult television show "Lost." Shatner told "Extra" that while he would have added to the film's appeal, he believes it will be successful without him. "I've become even more popular than I was playing Captain Kirk," he said. "I'm good box office and I get publicity. But, they are going in a different direction and it'll be a wonderful film."

http://trekweb.com/articles/2007/11/24/New-Star-Trek-Movienbspwill-benbspFilming-at-Vasquez-Rocks-Location.shtml
According to Trek Movie Report, an inside source has revealed that the new Star Trek movie crew will be shooting at the famed Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park north of Los Angeles. No info from Trek Movie when the shooting starts, but Paramount scouts have already visited the area, according to the site. Beware of spoilers. The area has been used in the filming of numerous Star Trek productions, including four episodes of Star Trek: The Original Series, including "Arena", featuring the famous fight between Captain Kirk and the Gorn, plus one episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, an episode each of Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Enterprise, as well as a brief scene in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. It is not known what planet (possibly Vulcan?) it will be standing in for in the new Star Trek movie, but a source tells Trek Movie that the famous 'Gorn Rock' (photo) is likely to end up in the film in a homage to "Arena", just like this shot of Captain Spock on the top of the 'Gorn Rock' used for a Vulcan scene filmed for Star Trek IV (photo below).

And I am getting a heck of a lot more excited about this, now I have realised that Karl Urban is playing McCoy. Good casting.

My Goodness!
While I never got into the old Star Trek series as much as my hubby did. I did watch the re-re-reruns and I saw the movies. The special effects and action in this look exciting. Yay to JJ for breathing new life into it! I know hubby's already planning on seeing it the weekend it opens for sure! Constance ...

Trek has been( and continues to be) a big part of my life, although it has tailed off for me in more recent years. I was never a huge fan of TNG or Voyager
but was fanatical about TOS and DS9.
I cannot get over what a brilliant job Karl Urban does with that Georgia accent. I hardly recognised him. The link again to the official site. You can watch the trailer in HD here, but it does take a little while to come online. http://www.startrekmovie.com/
