Okay! I know this movie won't be out until Dec.--and actually like a bad fan, I didn't even KNOW that there was going
to BE another Star Trek movie!--but I caught this article on my homepage and wanted to post it before it disappeared and because I thought it was interesting!
And yes, there really IS a small town named Vulcan in Alberta...I've never been there myself tho......
Tiny Alberta town launches campaign to host premiere of next Star Trek movie

CALGARY - A tiny community in southern Alberta is hoping to beam the premiere of the next Star Trek movie to a galaxy far, far away from Tinseltown.
It may not be the planet of Vulcan, but the town of the same name, population 1,762, has already developed itself as a tourist attraction focusing on the birthplace of Star Trek's beloved Mr. Spock.
And after word that filming on the next Star Trek movie was about to begin, Trekkies in the community southeast of Calgary began aiming to go where no small Canadian town has gone before.
"We have this lofty goal. When I heard the new Star Trek movie was going into production this fall, I thought why don't we see if we can bring the movie premiere here to Vulcan because it would go so well with all the other Star-Trek-related things this community has done," said Dayna Dickens, Vulcan's tourism co-ordinator.
"I'm approaching this with the philosophy that if I don't ask they can't say yes or no."
Star Trek XI is scheduled to be released on Christmas Day 2008.
Already on the international radar for its famous name and for its homage to Star Trek, the entire town of Vulcan believes that it is the "logical" place to host the film's opening event, said Dickens, playing on Mr. Spock's love of all things rational.
"The storyline of this new movie is rumoured to be a prequel to the original series and it's supposed to be written around a young Spock and (Capt. James T.) Kirk.
"From what I've read on the Net, Leonard Nimoy is cast to play Spock ... I think it would be fun to bring Mr. Spock home for a homecoming."
Dickens has created a group on Facebook to support Vulcan's cause.
"We already have over 130 members from all over the world, and the group is less than one week old. Momentum is growing."
Members of the Alberta Film Commission will take Vulcan's proposal to an industry meeting in Los Angeles later this fall.
Star Trek XI is scheduled to be released on Christmas Day 2008.
Vulcan unveiled its own Star Ship FX6-1995-A in 1995 to welcome visitors. A plaque includes greetings written in English, Vulcan and Klingon. Another sign welcomes visitors with the Vulcan motto "Live Long and Prosper."
Three years later, the Vulcan Tourism Trek Station was opened. The town also hosts an annual Vul-con Convention. And in an odd combination of prairie tradition and outer space zeal, there's also the annual Spock Days Rodeo.
For local Trekkie fans like Grace Klitmoller, the idea of a movie premiere in her community would be a dream.
"This is what we've been working to do for a long time, to do anything related to Star Trek, which is cool," said Klitmoller, who makes, sells and sends Star Trek costumes around the world.
"It would mean a lot because we have some very, very loyal fans that come here every year to our convention."
